This type of motor can be installed in a gate with wide posts and allows the gates to swivel up to 90 degrees. This can help you if you have a narrow driveway that doesn’t have enough space for a sliding gate to be opened and closed by a linear motor.
There are other options for gate motors that are designed to be hidden. Underground types of these motors are bolted inside foundation boxes that are installed in the ground below a gate’s hinges. The only part of these motors you can see is the foundation box lid and a motor output shaft that sticks out through the bottom of the gate. These can be a good choice for residential gates because they’re not as noticeable.
There are some disadvantages to using these kinds of underground motors though. For example, they’ll need to be regularly inspected by a professional to ensure that the drainage holes aren’t blocked by dirt or debris. And, they’ll need to be replaced after a certain number of years.
